As a female Asian scholar, Dr. Jeong is committed to promoting issues of diversity in the classroom where students arrive with different levels of awareness about social inequalities. The strategies of critical inquiry and active viewing found in performance analysis inform her pedagogical approach. In her courses, she highlights such skills by asking students to synthesize information across a variety of different texts. Her class activities not only help students visualize different notions of agency, but they also illustrate that an alternative analytic framework can illuminate textual analysis. Furthermore, Dr. Jeong’s research helps students recognize and understand a multi-perspectival approach by moving away from the scholarship that promotes a paternalistic view of the West.
